We were unable to reveal it in our previous post, but now it’s official: Menhammar is buying back A Sweet Dance!
Helena Burman has, as previously mentioned, been planning today’s race at length and in great detail. One thing that gradually emerged during planning was that this was to be A Sweet Dance’s final race, having acquitted herself admirably and started sparingly during the Paris-Vincennes winter meeting in France. As the hopes of Helena and her owners for a fitting finale grew, so the decision gradually became definitive: A Sweet Dance would end on a peak.
And what a peak it proved to be! Even if hopes were high, neither her owners nor her trainers could have believed that this particular dream would come true.
Menhammar is thankful that the opportunity arose to buy back our raised and bred mare A Sweet Dance. We would also like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to her groom Ulrika Eriksson, who has done a fantastic job with A Sweet Dance. We understand that Ulrika will no doubt shed a tear and miss A Sweet Dance; however, as part of the deal, her owners will be acquiring her yearling full sister Farandole (by Maharajah out of Sugar Step). We believe that Ulrika is now likely to be caring for her.
Meanwhile, A Sweet Dance is on her way to Normandy to be covered by another of today’s winners, Face Time Bourbon. Maharajah is looking forward to becoming the proud grandfather of the, hopefully, resulting foal. Ulrika will be accompanying A Sweet Dance to Normandy and spending a couple of days with her to ensure that she acclimatises painlessly to her new life.
